Nyeji Mhango

Nyeji Mhango is a development finance specialist and investment professional with over 20 years of experience in sovereign debt management, corporate finance and institutional banking. She leads the firm’s strategic direction and investment management process. Her responsibilities encompass defining the firm’s investment thesis, formulating deployment strategies, and overseeing the comprehensive execution of transactions while spearheading fund structuring, ensuring alignment with investor mandates.  She is also  responsible for cultivating investor relations and spearheading capital raising initiatives.

Throughout her career, Nyeji has deployed funds into Southern Africa, structuring deals that fuel innovation, create jobs, and empower women. Nyeji has served on Boards and has also provided transaction advisory and strategic consulting services to businesses and investors navigating Africa’s complex markets. Nyeji holds a Master of Science in Development Finance from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the University of Namibia.

Yvonne C. Mpala

Founding Partner & Chief Operations Officer (COO)

Yvonne holds an MBA and brings over 20 years of experience combining operational expertise with strategic insight in investment and capital mobilisation across Southern Africa. She leads investment operations, corporate governance, risk management, and investor coordination across Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa. Yvonne bridges capital and capability to scale innovative African businesses, having deployed patient capital into growth-stage enterprises and supported them through due diligence, investor readiness, and portfolio optimisation.

Her experience includes driving SME lending portfolios, delivering ESG aligned value creation, and enhancing investment design and execution. She offers proven expertise in operational strategy, enterprise transformation, financial management, governance, and investor readiness, all aligned with scalability and institutional standards. As a former banker, Yvonne led institutional operational transformation across business functions and now applies those insights to blended finance and sustainable investment. She has secured strategic partnerships with global funders and currently serves on the Investment Committee of a regional impact fund, championing inclusive, impact driven capital across the region.

Melissa Gray

Founding Partner & Chief Financial Officer (CFO), wCap Limited

Melissa Gray is an ACCA-qualified finance and operations executive with over 20 years of experience in accounting, governance, and business operations across the UK and Southern Africa. As a Founding Partner and CFO of wCap Limited, she is responsible for the firm’s financial strategy and works closely with executive leadership to enhance operational and governance frameworks.

Her expertise spans financial and management accounting, cross-border fund operations, internal and external compliance, and the integration of business efficiencies. Earlier in her career, Melissa held senior roles in publicly listed mining and exploration companies, where she led finance and operations functions including multi-country procurement, logistics, and the design of governance and efficiency frameworks to support capital deployment.

Melissa is known for aligning financial planning with strategic growth, embedding robust controls, and enabling scalable outcomes across complex, capital-intensive environments.

Chanda Mutoni

Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

Chanda is a seasoned capital markets and investment specialist with two decades of experience in corporate finance, capital markets, strategic advisory, transaction structuring and impact investing across Zambia and Southern Africa. As Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of wCap Limited, he leads the firm’s investment strategy with a focus on gender lens investing and climate-aligned ventures driving both financial performance and real-world impact through gender‑lens and climate-aligned capital deployment.

Chanda has led the structuring and execution of landmark pioneering transactions on the Lusaka Securities Exchange. His leadership has enabled transformative investments in companies bolstering growth in sectors from agribusiness to data analytics.

Beyond wCap, Chanda lends strategic oversight as a Non-Executive Board Member of ZAFFICO. His broad expertise spans delivering advisory services to both large corporates and MSMEs with a focus on capital raising, restructuring and innovative transaction structuring that bridges commercial returns with sustainable development objectives. Chanda holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics & Finance from the University of Cape Town and has completed specialized certifications in sustainable finance, digital innovation, and corporate governance.

Martina Jane Phiri

Principal

Martina is a finance and investment professional with over 10 years of experience across banking, microfinance, and trade finance in Zambia. As a Principal at wCap Limited, she plays a role in sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, ESG Integration, and portfolio management.

Her expertise spans stakeholder engagement and credit assessment, with a focus on supporting high-growth businesses in Southern Africa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from the University of Zambia and is certified in Financial Analysis and Valuation.

Chisha Kafuli

Investment Analyst

Chisha Kafuli is an Investment Analyst with experience in transaction execution, portfolio management, and fund structuring across Southern Africa. At wCap Limited, he plays a pivotal role in identifying and appraising SME investments, conducting due diligence, drafting investment documentation, and supporting portfolio companies with strategic and operational improvements. He has contributed to the closing of investments in Zambia and Namibia and supported the structuring of a US$10 million fund through financial modelling, comparative legal research, and capital strategy development. Chisha also provides technical assistance to investee companies, focusing on financial analysis, governance structuring, and performance tracking to ensure alignment with investment objectives and sustainable growth.

Previously, Chisha worked as an Experienced Audit Associate at Deloitte, where he led audit engagements in the banking, private equity, insurance, and energy sectors. His expertise in risk assessment, internal controls, and IFRS compliance informs his approach to investment analysis and portfolio oversight. Chisha holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management from the University of Cape Town. He is currently progressing through the ACCA qualification and holds a certification in Investment Advisory and Stockbroking.
