Climate Action

Financing the Climate Transition

SMEs in Southern Africa operate at the front line of the climate transition. Agribusinesses face intensifying drought cycles. Manufacturers face energy cost volatility driven by load-shedding and grid instability. Cold chain resilience is critical for food and healthcare supply chains. Yet these same enterprises are structurally excluded from financing at the 3–7 year tenors that climate-positive investment requires. wCap exists to close that gap with patient, cash-flow-based private credit.

Climate Mitigation

  • Minimum 20% reduction in energy intensity per unit of output through efficiency investments
  • Renewable energy deployment (solar PV, biomass and battery storage) covering more than 50% of peak load
  • Low-carbon manufacturing and climate-smart agricultural practices, including reduced chemical fertiliser use and precision irrigation

Climate Adaptation & Resilience

  • Cold chain investment to reduce post-harvest losses caused by heat stress and erratic power supply
  • Water efficiency investments, including drip irrigation and climate-resilient input access for smallholder supply chains
  • Business continuity improvements for supply chains exposed to climate-driven disruption
Gender and climate are not parallel lenses in our approach. The barriers excluding women-led enterprises from private credit are often the same barriers preventing those enterprises from investing in climate-positive activities. Removing them is simultaneously a climate intervention and a gender intervention.
